  • Calhoun website already says 'If applying for kindergarten, please know that few, if any, spots for boys are anticipated for the 2009/2010 school year'. No point in applying, right?

      • sounds like a gentle way of saying no spots. What's the point of applying then?

        • OK, I'll tell you now, there is a big chance you are going to be a shut out. Will that make you not apply anywhere? You can't win it if you aren't in it.

          • Are you interpreting the website statement to mean that there will be few spots? To me it sounds like no spots unless someone drops out or something.

            • You never know. I'm saying if you want your child to attend, then you apply. Who cares about the odds? If you can't afford the application fee, that is another story.

              • I do see your point. I guess it's so competitive out there that you have to work whatever chances there may be.

          • np: I think "big chance" is an over-statement. I think there's maybe a 10% chance of a total shut-out based on the numbers I've seen. At our pre-school, it was less than 10% and we're not a "TT".

              • but it's not really a valid point. if you have a ds and the school is telling you IN ADVANCE that there are likely no spots for boys, then there is in fact a BIG chance that your ds will not get in to that school.

    • My PSD told me this in June and when I posted it here in response to something, I was told that "she couldn't possibly know that".

    • I probably wouldn't bother. CGPS said that last year re boys and I wouldn't have applied there either. Save your time for schools that have spots. (On the other hand, DC is going to a school that was _rumored_ to have almost no spots after sibs/legs - I ignored the rumor - rumor is different from the school's public statement re how many spots it has.)

      • Ugh. Unfortunately, I think sometimes the reality is worse than people think. St. Hilda's said openly during their tour that they'd only have 5-10 spots available. If we'd known that, we probably wouldn't have bothered applying.
