  • If you didn't have a c-section, what is your experience about being up and about after birth? I have always been fine, a little soreness, but walked home 20 min from hospital with each of 3 DBs between 24-48 hours after birth. People seem so amazed and ask me why I am "up and about". Am I unusual? Seems normal to me and I really wanted to get moving as it made me feel better.

    • I think people are trying to express admiration for your entire experience - not so much the technicalities.

    • Was up and about by the afternoon and I DID have a c. Would have preferred to stay in bed, but nurses kept encouraging me to do the rounds on the floor, said it would speed up my recovery.

    • I was up and about after giving birth -- but I had to push myself to do so (and it was slow going). I figured that I'd feel better (in the long run) -- but it wasn't all that "easy." Agree with the poster above -- I think that the comments are expressions of admiration. :)

    • I was fine. My husband insisted on driving, but I was up and around. I got really tired more like day 5 or 6.

    • Up and out of the birthing center 14 hrs after delivery. I only stayed put when nursing and sleeping and was very high energy. I do remember sitting down more on 3rd day pp, as I noticed my ankles had swelled(hugely) due to all those fluids circulating, trying to get out. That was the only reason I remember feeling I needed to take it 'easier' than I felt.
