I have a three-year-old and a new baby. The baby's "witching hours" are from 6 to 8pm, just when I'm trying to get my older son fed, bathed, and into bed. I feel terrible, but the baby spends a lot of time crying in her swing while I'm running around with my DS. The only thing that calms the baby down is to be swaddled, held, and "shushed", but I just can't do it during these crazy evening hours. (My DH usually works late.) Please reassure me that I'm not scarring the baby for life. I feel terrible letting her scream, but I only have two hands and I don't know what else to do. Anyone been there?

If possible, put the baby in a Bjorn or sling so you can carry her around while you feed and do the bedtime routine. I sometimes had to cut short my back-rubbing with my ds b/c baby was crying and needed attention. it was hard but i didn't always choose the 3yo over the baby. I couldn't let her scream like that. Sometimes the 3yo resented it, but fwiw, they get along famously well now (baby is 9mo) and he has gotten used to sharing me and being patient when i'm needing to attend to the baby.

When I ride in a taxi cab with my DC I:
- Use a carseat
- Buckle him/her in his/her own seat
- Hold him/her on my lap
- I'd never ride in a taxi with my DC, it's much too dangerous!
