  • Just curious if anyone has gotten an offer to a G&T after the official offers went out. I remember the speculation that the DOE would quietly institute a wait list policy. Now that school is almost two weeks away, does anyone have knowledge of this actually happening?

    • They were testing more kids over the summer for the remaining spots, but that was only for people that moved in after the deadline.

    • my welcome letter for my dd's school said they were still waiting for some families to register. Leads me to believe that they don't know how many openings they may have.

          • i don't think there will be offers. i think if you qualified and were to call up and ask for a spot at an undersubscribed school you would get it, as would anyone who moved here over the summer. i have it from a good source that there are a LOT of open g&t seats at every school but the two or three most popular.

            • This was always the case. Even when they went down the list, some programs just did not attract families. Everyone wants the few popular programs.

            • The DOE keeps tweaking and changing the admissions system for gifted programs. But if it just made the programs better, people wouldn't care that much which one they went to. If they went a step further and published the curriculums and some sample work online, parents would be in a better position to decide whether it was appropriate for their child.

    • I think if someone did get an offer they would be an idiot to post it here. this forum has been used to spread rumors and incite crazies to new heights. if I got a spot for my kid, I would quietly smile to myself and never mention it to anyone, and certainly not on UB.
