  • wwyd - there's most likely violence going on in the apt next to me. i'm their only neighbor. either the husbands beating the wife, or theres just a lot of violent fighting going on for hours (banging, throwing, etc.) ds is 9mo and hasnt awaken to these noises, so far. i want to report this anonymously to the police but it'd be obvious it was us that reported. also, if its domestic abuse, what if i make things worse for the women getting beat by getting involved?

    • do you have a husband or male partner? I would go over there together and just knock on the door and ask if everything is ok. In domestic violence situations it's good for them both to know people are aware and care. I wouldn't call the police just yet, without doing that. Maybe their ferret got loose and is jumping all over and they're trying to catch it. Who knows!

      • i agree, it'd be better to approach them w/ my husband than alone. seriously, i'd be afraid i'd get beat if i go alone. thats how bad it's been. this has gone on for a few days. they dont seem to sleep at night. i'm scared for the woman (if she IS getting beat up), but also scared for myself too.

    • OP do you have a friend who is a social worker or some other professional? They may be able to advise you on how to handle this -- but are you sure it's obvious you are the only neighbor?

    • If she doesn't want to report it you are doing no favors reporting it, she has to be willing to press charges. It could very well make it worse for her. You could try to call in a "noise violation" might help for a few weeks.
