  • We have a Superyard (like a giant playpen) in the living room filled with toys. My 8 month old is trying to stand and grabs onto the sides and pulls himself up sometimes and hangs there crying until I grab him. Today, my attention wandered and he fell from the wall of the pen backward like a tree, hitting the back of his head on the padded floor. He cried for about 30 seconds but seems fine. I felt horrible. Do you think he is okay? Should I get rid of the pen? I am afraid he will do it again. He is always standing in his crib now but if he falls, he will bounce on the mattress so it is no big deal. I don't know what to do with him. He wants constant direct attention, all day long. He used to play quietly with himself for long stretches of time or sit in the swing. No more.

    • as a mom to a now 5 yo dd who fell a lot- once my fault, the rest was her, she's totally fine. You are doing the right thing with the playpen. Don't beat yourself up- he didn't fall back on cement.

    • He is fine. And he will quickly learn not to fall. Then he will learn to scale the Superyard, in which case it's time to pass it on.
