about to renovate our apt and contractor suggested using a decorator -- is it worth it and/or necessary? is it expensive?
11 replies [ Reply | Watch | Options ]Why would you want your home to look like a show room? The purpose of the decorator is to help coordinate a look that fits your style.
[ Reply | Options ]well when I say showroom I mean like someone professional or with decorating experience worked on the space. My sis paid over 25k for what? She really made all of the decisions on her own with this lady just along for what? I think of a person is clueless and not sure of what style they want then hire someone..but if someone has taste and knows what they want, don't waste your money

furniture is easy... you know what you like. But I think it might help to have someone help with the things that need to be chosen when you renovate like; flooring, tiles, cabinets, fixtures, etc.
[ Reply | Options ]I think you need to pick one very carefully. My brother used someone just starting out on his bachelor apartment - she worked with his budget and led him in a more timeless/polished decorating direction and he had a great place. Then my other friend used someone else and their place doesn't even look coordinated or stylishly uncoordinated, it just looks random and they got talked into some expensive blah things.

When I ride in a taxi cab with my DC I:
- Use a carseat
- Buckle him/her in his/her own seat
- Hold him/her on my lap
- I'd never ride in a taxi with my DC, it's much too dangerous!
