  • recently divorced mom. Exdh will spend next weekend w/dc and I was thinking of going to a bed and breakfast somewhere on the beach close to NY and not a crazy expensive place. I really just need some rest, maybe read a book...what is a safe, decent place perhaps on the NJ coast, that I can reach by train? A colleague suggested looking at Ocean Grove, NJ, has anyone been there? Or if you even have specific suggestions for a B&B, that would be great. Thanks

    • I have been to Ocean Grove and it is definitely a safe, decent place. I didn't stay at a B&B, but the whole town is very small and walkable and a little weird since it's a Victorian town and also a Methodist camp so it's dry. There is a little street with shops with knick-knacks, there are bars in Asbury Park if you want to go out and get a drink (the people in your B&B will most likely be 55+), and there is a tent that has performances - sometimes church related, sometimes not.

      • -- Oh, I took the train to Asbury Park and it was frankly a little sketchy and not that busy. (There are parts of Asbury Park that are nice and some that aren't). But I think there is a bus that goes to Ocean Grove. You also can look in Spring Lake or Manasquan (next to Spring Lake) for a B&B. Spring Lake is really nice!
