      • Just so you ignoramuses know, Delta is a program of MS54 (the Booker T. Washington Middle School), as is Core, the other program. They are the same school.

    • I know DCs that have been threatened with knives, had rocks thrown at them (resulting in serious injury), had their asses grabbed (against their will), have been mugged...the list goes on and on

      • By kids in the other program in the building? Or in the neighborhood from other schools?

        • By DCs in the "other" MS54 program, both in the building and right outside

          • B.S. Had child there very recently. No such complaints during time in attendance. Am sending second child there too. These are thinly veiled racist rumors.

      • I'm betting a bundle that you have no actual personal experience or knowledge of these events. Was your child or one of his close friends attacked? In the time we were there I heard this sort of remark a lot from families not there but never could find a first-hand account from people who were.

        • np: Yes, I know children personally who were taunted routinely by the same chiild/children to the point where he wouldn't ever go to the bathroom at school; another who was grabbed inappropriately in the stairwell by the same child without the behavior being stopped even with a complaint that the child was scared to make lest even worse behavior fall upon her; and by two other boys who were mugged by Core students near the school. Most kids don't tell their parents about these incidents because they don't want their freedoms revoked - like commuting to school by themselves or hanging out after school with friends, because their parents won't feel it's safe enough.

          • I have heard some horror stories too. I think the Administration and the "common" PTA is bending over backwards these days to appease the thugs and their parents

          • Why did you call up a thread from over a month ago to add your negative post? Did you do a search on "Delta" just so you could add your anecdotes? That doesn't make sense.

    • I think the way you've posed your question suggests the answers you want to hear. But my experience with my 3 boys at Delta over a combined total of 7 years was wonderful. There are some problem kids in the other program, but there are some in Delta too, just as there are some in middle schools around the city. By no means could the kids in Core be characterized as "violent thugs". The young woman representing Core who spoke at last year's 8th grade graduation (where Gov Patterson also spoke since his son was graduating from Delta) was articulate, funny and interesting to listen to - in my opinion, a better speaker than the Delta girl. If you don't want to go there because of your fears, fine, but don't insult all the kids of MS54 by asking your question in such an ignorant way.

      • Ultimately, like every parent, what I care about is my child's safety. I'm sure there are many sweet and smart DCs at MS54. However if 20% of the CORE program are violent thugs (that would be 70 DCs) who are a potential threat to my DC, that's enough for to NOT send my DC to Delta. So the BIG question is do your DCs feel safe there?

        • My dd is there now. Learning a ton, loves her teachers, has friends, having a ball. Yes, she feels safe. So sick of people who know nothing making sh*t up about the school (20% of kids violent thugs? please!).

          • I was considering sending my child to Delta and i spoke to half a dozen parents with children there. The best I can figure out is that some kids do have problems and do get terrorized and do get mugged; other kids find ways to avoid problems by travelling in groups, not going to bathroom during the day, etc; and still others experience no problems at all. Each parent is firmly convinced that anyone with a differnt experience than theirs is lying. I think it just varies based on lots of things including the kid -a short boy with glasses is at more risk than a tall athletic boy, for instance.

            • Middle-schoolers can be vulnerable anywhere(including private schools). I have heard anecdotes from people whose kids walk short distances solo to private school in tony neighborhoods, where kids get hassled by other kids, mugged for their ipods, etc. Particularly to boys (maybe a macho thing with the kids doing the hassling?) I've known tons of people with kids who have gone to Delta and their kids never experienced any of this - my dc is there now and is fine.
