  • Help: Sorry for semi-annoying medical question but need some advice. Every morning I wake up with a friggin' stiff neck, both sides, tense, sore. I do have TMJ issues, but I *think* it has something to do with pillow number/configuration. I haven't changed anything, but has any one experience this? What worked? Yoga stretches help, by the end of the day my neck feels fine. Just want to correct whatever it is that's clearly happening when I sleep. Sorry to be boring, but I am in pain!

    • get thee to physical therapy. I had bad hip pain, and the pt sorted it out by changing the way I sit, and putting a stool under my feet at my desk. So maybe a pt can help you with pillow choice/sleep positions?

    • i have had tmj for years - i finally was sick and tire of waking up with a stiff neck, headaches, facial pain that i went to see a tmj specialist at nyu - just had an MRI - and he will eventually decide on what kind of action. the doctor said that every time your jaw clicks, aches, etc and you have pain it is like spraining your ankle.

    • Dr. Michael Gelb is a specialist in orofascial pain. Highly recommend him for TMJ and related issues.
