  • So how would you gently fire a cleaning person who just isn't working out? It's been three years - I never should have let it go this long. She's very nice, but just doesn't do a great job -- spends way too much time on laundry when things haven't been dusted and bathrooms don't look that clean (for example, even when i ask her not to do anything other than fold what I've already washed, she goes into the hamper and washes whatever is in there). I'm such a wimp. I feel horrible letting her go. Should I just say that with a new baby coming (db2 due in 2 months) I've decided to get a babysitter/cleaner and offer her severance? How much $$ is fair?

    • No need for severance for a once or twice a month person. I have a similar cleaning person. How about asking one more time if you think she could do a good job

    • I've discovered that most housekeepers suck. Don't burn a bridge because the next one that you hire could be worse.

    • i'd just say you don't need her services anymore. then hire someone else. and you don't owe severance. she's not an employee. she's a contractor
