  • Has anyone here had success with getting their dh to be more ambitious / maximize his career drive?

    • personally I have found career drive innate (either the guys I dated had it and were focused in other areas of their lives as well, or they totally didn't care)

      • np: agree. My DH was clearly just born an achiever. From things his MIL says it sounds like he was exactly like this at 3--it's just he can drive and has a wider vocab now. You marry the guy you marry and you work with who he is. If you're the ambitious one then maybe you need to be out there working and have him be the at-home parent.

        • . . . and there's a downside/upside to both ways. I have a very high standard of living because my DH is driven & chose a career that suits his abilities. But he works a lot more than any of us would like and we have stress because of that.

    • Nope. And I've realized it was disrespectful of me to keep trying.

    • Both of us are now on WW to lose weight which I think will give DH a confidence boost. He uses his weight as an excuse not to look for a better position. I wish I could do more like a big kick in the ass.

    • Indirectly. DH took it upon himself to better his career and make himself more marketable. When asked, or I feel the need to, I advise.
