When did your db start eating finger foods by him/herself? We're still feeding our 8.5 month old baby (pureed) food. Seems like he's old enough to get soft solids (avocado, melon, tofu?). What did you start with?
10 replies [ Reply | Watch | Options ]watching this becasue we still havent given 8.5 mo ds any finger foods either - only up to stage 2 purees. but he has no teeth (I know that has nothing to do with it really) but Im scared to give him anything and dont know what to try first. he seems to have good pincer grasp but doesnt seem interested in using it to grab food!
[ Reply | Options ]My 9mo eats fairly much what we do. I started with soft cooked and cubed veg, soft cubed fruit, cubed cheese, spiral pasta, cut up fish and soft cooked meat and of course cherios. If you have never tried solid food you can also try cottage cheese. GL
[ Reply | Options ]The sooner the better. My 11 mo has no teeth and eats almost anything, has been eating table foods since 6 mos. Gagging is not choking, so don't react badly if there's a bit of it as db gets used to handling new foods. They learn quickly to spit out pieces of food that are too big. Oh, but this is important, let db feed him/herself as much as possible, and wait for the desire / open mouth to put in any food you do feed. Never try to "get" db to eat anything. It will be fine, jump in!

When I ride in a taxi cab with my DC I:
- Use a carseat
- Buckle him/her in his/her own seat
- Hold him/her on my lap
- I'd never ride in a taxi with my DC, it's much too dangerous!
