  • Wow you NY moms are truly obsessed with your child’s preschool and kindergarten options. My gosh move if you are so angry at the way the system works not all parts of the country have to send their children to private schools. My gosh. I know I will be flamed but GOOD LORD.

    • i think you'd find that there are people in every community who obsess about these things, and about private schools. you just may live in a community where public is an option (which it is in NY too, actually.)

    • i think a lot of it is guilty. They are being selfish by reaming in NYC so they comfort themselves by making everyone crazy about these schools.

        • NYC - while a great city - is not designed for kids. Dirty, crowded, cramped and adult-centric. If you choose to remain their when your children are school age it is strictly for your benefit not theirs.

          • huh. i really have to disagree, but that's in part because we'd both have to commute if we moved and thus see kids a lot less. the city does not strike me as any more adult-centric than most. then again, i didn't do the private thing, either.

          • np: ITTD. I was born and raised in Manhattan. I'm a native NYer and love the city. Love raising my kids here. With that said I DO NOT obsess over getting my kids into Harvard, Princeton or Yale. I could care less about those places. All I want are well rounded, great kids who are good kids, good adults and love themselves and their families. Where they go to school (college) will be their decision.

            • Same here. I would add that both sides of our family lives in NYC. We love that our DCs are very close to their cousins. They see each other at least once a week. All of the kids go to public schools in their districts. The only stress we have is that our zoned school is underperforming. So we applied to another school in our district with open enrollment.

          • What are you talking about? NYC kids grow up with access to more cool stuff -- museums, zoos, libraries, parks and playgrounds, culture (low to high and global) than just about anywhere else. They can't walk five steps without getting exposed to something educational. I don't know about these weirdos trying to get their toddlers on track for Harvard, but it's a great place to be a kid.

      • the majority of NY parents (if not UB posters) send their kids to public, and probably don't really consider anything but their zoned school. this board isn't reality.

        • Well that is good to know. I am not saying living in NY is bad per say. But you are correct this board isn't the majority of NYC pop. i just think it is weird how the moms on here obsess about the school process. geez I have to many other things to stress about.
