camp counselor tips: 5-yo dd's camp ends this week. she has 8 counselors in her group. camp said they would take all tips and split evenly. what's a good amount to give? this was half-day day camp, mostly teenage counselors.

      - or: our camp counserlors aren't teens but teachers from local private schools. At over $500 a week for camp, I just can't spring for tip too. I saved up an entire yr for camp (we aren't rich). What kind of tip are they expecting?

        A lot of camps actually send out guidelines. I think in OP's case I'd send $100 and be done with it. If you can't afford it you can't afford it.

      - op: camp was 4 weeks. head counselor is teacher from local public school, but the rest are teens. camp cost $475 total.

      - I don't know- I got paid $9/hr as a camp counselor about 15 yrs ago. Most camp counselors get paid more than the min. wage they'd get at traditional jobs.

        I was a camp counselor 6 years ago and made $12/hour. No one ever tipped me and I would never have accepted a tip.

- Curious- is tipping counselors an NYC thing? I live in the south - paid $500 for dd to go to camp for two weeks and have no intention of tipping. i don't think anyone tips.

- That is ridiculous. I worked as a camp counselor for 4 years and would NEVER have expected (or accepted) a tip. These teenagers probably have more money that you do - I would NOT tip at all
