  • Dd is going to a private this fall on major FA. The recession is making me nervous in terms of the school's ability to continue giving us FA. Should I be worried about this?

    • we are on FA too but I'm not worried. I can't think that far in advance. If something happens than it's off to Catholic school for my kids..until then we are staying put

    • no, there are way too many dc for spots in NYC, even in the worst economy the demand will exceed supply. Maybe newer school like Mandell will have a longer haul to reach thir goals but much of the money in NYC privates is old and will not be effected by the economy.

    • probably not, but may want to be nervous about how much other costs have gone up and will continue to go up (travel, food, etc.)

      • Brearley, possibly the richest NYC school, has an endowment of 106 million. Boarding schools (St. Paul's, Exeter) can hit 750 million or so.

      • I don't know of a single private school (outside of colleges) that has over a billion dollar endowment dedicated to FA. Even colleges with endowments over a billion dedicate a tiny fraction of their endowment to FA (part of the reason many are calling for them to lose their NFP status).
