  • how many private schools should I apply to for better odds?

    • one, your odds aren't necessarily improved by applying to a ton of schools. your dc has to go through the playdates and is bound to have some off days if you apply to 15 schools. two, if you want to improve your odds, should have focused on being a non pita parent in ps and and helping dc in school (enrichment, not tutoring, etc). three, you should only apply to schools where you would send dc. don't apply to a school to improve odds if you don't think you or dc would be happy there

      • np: BTDT and ITTA. Only apply to places that you would send. It's a pita to waste their time and your dc if you are just sending out apps but just to do it

        • With this in mind, you may end up pulling applications at some point in the process. There were a couple schools we thought we'd love based on research, then the tour and interview completely changed our minds. It can be hard to know for sure going in...

    • Apply to 10. Make sure at least 2 are "safe" schools.

      • there's some debate as to whether there is such a thing as "safety" schools anymore. Parent's League and many PSDs say no.

        • Right, but you don't just apply to the tt's unless you have a good public option. There are less competitive privates.
