  • George W Bush went to Yale. His SAT score was not even 1200. His GPA from HS was bad, too. Goes to show if you're connected, you don't need smarts to go to these schools. Affirmative action for the privileged.

    • he applied to college when going was still something not everyone did. he also had average grades at one of the best schools in the country, which means despite being an idiot now, he worked hard and learned something

      • He got Bs and Cs. He could not have gotten into Andover either on his own.

        • Bs and Cs at Andover are quite something and harder to get than an A at some suburban public. I am not a Bush fan, but you are taking his application to boarding school and college out of the context of the era. Less competition, fewer students applying, when legacy meant something which it doesn't now at colleges

      • Oh c'mon, the trend that EVERYONE should get a college degree is a recent phenom, back when he did, only the elite and the highly driven did so (and the GI bill guys, but he was most certainly not one of those ;)

    • 35+ years ago, that was certainly true. At this point, you have to be the DC of a current member of the university Board of Trustees to be guaranteed admission. No one else is a sure thing.

    • He was the grandson of the senior senator from the home state. That gets you in.
