Do you think Chinese families who live in Chinatown pick 130 and 124 as their first choice for g&t?

I am sending dd there, so am asking if anyone else is sending dc. have not seen it come up on ub yet....
[ Reply | Options ]someone posted on insideschools that they are happily going to send their child there. ub, as you know, is not representative of every family that has a child going into a g&t program in the fall.
[ Reply | Options ]what is the demographic of UB? I can't believe there are no posts about this school!!! all i see is Nest, Anderson, LL, 11, 116 etc...white schools

I know ps 130 well, I teach for a residency arts program there. The g & t classes are great. I only have first hand experience w/ the 4th grade and there are about 6 or so non-Asian kids this year. And the teachers (esp. the 4th grade g & t) are fantastic. I would def send my non-Asian child there or PS 124, where I have taught also.

we toured last yr. principal really looking to add white families-is disappointed that as neighborhood changes, families sending kids elsewhere. they, as of last fall's k class, still took variances for kids from outer boroughs to fill spaces in gen ed and g&t. we were impressed overall-pleasantly surprised. we know families there who have had mixed experiences but people are pretty happy
[ Reply | Options ]Your fact are not correct. As of last year, no variances allowed for G&T or gened. Also not true that principal is "looking to add white families." She has no jurisdiction over this as zoning and G&T acceptances are DOE-based. She of course wants everyone in zone to go to her school but she really can't do anything about that other than appeal to the white families by making the curriculum more progressive.
