On TechRepublic: Off-work behavior that can get you fired

  • if i can change anything about myself it would be not to be such a worry wort...any ideas on how to do this? it is starting to become a handicap...and i come from a long line of worriers

    • that is a hard thing to change but it helps me if I remind myself that I'm not in control. Worrying doesn't help anything. I tell myself that if something bad did happen, I would be really mad at myself for spending the last good days being miserable. If you are religious it can help to remember that you are not in control and God is.

    • I actually saw a therapist about this once and she told me something that really helped. She told me about some study where they asked people what they were most worried about happening in 6 months then they following up; over 90% of the time, the thing did NOT happen. They couldn't believe it, so they did it again but asked for worries over the next year; same result. So, keep in mind that the thing you are worried about most likely won't happen!
