Planning to be a sahm in NYC. Can any sahm's tell me what it is really like? Afraid it might be too isolating. Seems like everyone works!

[ Reply | Options ]There is a ton to do -- so many places that you can take your db and so many things at your fingertips. I love wheeling my little one around -- in and out of stores, through the park, etc. The hardest thing for me is that I have to make a lot of new friends -- all of my friends work and are not free before 7 pm (except for the occasional lunch). The park, classes provide opp to meet other sahm but I have not been finding many that I jive with -- in my neighborhood, most people have nannies (whether or not they work) -- which is not the lifestyle we want -- or are women who never had much of a career and the conversation is limited to usweekly and baby issues -- I think eventually I will find more people I click with -- and not that there is anything wrong with people in either of those categories -- I just don't have ton in common with them -- fine to chitchat with at the playground -- but I just get the sense we will never be close friends. The one thing I find though is that I think there is more disdain for sahms in NYC than in other places -- especially for sahms who left lucrative/interesting careers behind.
