My dad and I have been having such a hard time since my mom died 2 yrs ago. Has anyone here become estranged from a parent in your adult life? It makes me horribly sad to think that this may happen, but I really can't believe we can get better and I'm so tired of being this sad all the time.
3 replies [ Reply | Watch | Options ]My father and I had a similar problem after my mom (it was a long time ago now) and when he started dating and remarried it got worse... I always felt that everything would be better, more organized, more sentimental, more "real" had my mom been there as I felt she was the orchestrator and glue and he just wanted the appearance of a family still OK... anyway, time passed and I realized that he was just as confused and sad as we were and he really didn't know HOW to do what I wanted of him. We just tried to approach each other from a new way instead of trying to resurrect the old one and we're good now... very good...
