  • 5yo ds pretty much ignored everything I told him to do--and everything I told him not to do today. Finally told him to go to bed without usual routine (books). He, of course, said no. Had to threaten him with all sorts of dire consequences just to get him into his room. Feel as if I really screwed that up somehow.

      • Ha. I know that it's typical 5yo behavior, which is why I feel as if I screwed up.... (op)

        • I just swept up an armload of action figures and left him crying in the room. He came out 45 minutes later to give me a kiss goodnight and go to the bathroom, just as I was thinking to myself "some times there are bad days" you didn't screw up.

    • We had a day like this last week. It ended with me yelling at DS that if he was going to be a brat all day long he shouldn't expect dessert or a story. I'm not a perfect parent by any means, but I do think it's okay to be honest with them.

      • Thanks. Sounds like something I would say to ds. I feel as if I yell too much though and often say things that I shouldn't. So he didn't get the dessert and the story, right?
