Wow, someone from DOE just called me (8:45pm) to ask if it's correct that we didn't apply for any G&T school for our dc. I guess they're working overtime to get this going.

No way. A guy (I won't disclose his name) just called and asked. I can't believe anyone at the DOE is working this late but it's true.

I'm impressed too. But bit concerned at the same time because our telephone no. on the application was totally wrong and I couldn't update it after many calls to the number indicated on the instruction sheet. So if they don't get our application, even if DOE people work their a*s off, I wouldn't get a call, I guess....

called several numbers (incl. G&T office, Student enrollment office, no human voice, only voice messages. I left message in the earlie4r in the process, but gave up after not getting any responses.) -- if you know which no. or which person would be the best contact, let me know!! Pleeeeeese!!!

Many, many of us had incorrect phone numbers on our forms. I wonder how the DOE knew the OP's correct phone number. Was hers actually correct on their form?
[ Reply | Options ]Hmm... they had our phone # from the application to request Olsat testing. Obviously since we didn't submit G&T application after we got the score back. And, yes, they had wrong phone # printed on the application to us. I didn't think they knew our correct phone #. Apparently, they do have the correct phone #, though they misprinted it on the application they mailed to you with the score.
[ Reply | Options ]Thanks for responding. That is very interesting that they would have searched back into their files for you to get the #.
[ Reply | Options ]I think they must have the data in the computer (though it failed to print correct # initially). I just wonder if they bothered to call us bec of 99 & ethnic name. Maybe they're (Anderson) trying to balance the class since they don't have onsite anymore by name?
[ Reply | Options ]I sure hope so. We are in an underrepresented district and ranked Anderson first (also have an ethnic name!). But who really knows.

What I read into this is that we are probably not getting letters next week. I predict it'll be the week of June 16 that letters go out.
[ Reply | Options ]Let's do some tea leaf reading here. I'll go out on a limb. The OP's report suggests that they're looking to balance out the citywide schools geographically and possibly in other ways. If this were a straight lottery by computer, why would they care about whether or not OP had returned her form?

could you be reading too much into the fact that this particular person got a call? Maybe they are checking on all of the people who didn't respond. I remember reading somewhere earlier on this board when people were freaking out about certified mail that someone spoke to the DOE and heard they would be calling people from whom they had not gotten letters
[ Reply | Options ]Of course I could be reading too much into it! I'm an obsessed fool with nothing else to do except engage in groundless speculation. But as a practical matter, surely they cannot be planning on calling each & every kid who qualified above 90% who didn't return the letter? That seems a bit much, no?

YOU ARE READING TOO MUCH INTO THIS. We got a call too. Very American sounding family in D3. They just wanted to confirm that we did not submit our G&T selections (which was correct).

Slightly off topic, but how far up into Harlem does District 3 go? I thought that central Harlem was District 5.
