  • Moving 21 mo Crib Escapee to a twin bed tonight. Anyone have some good tips, esp. w/how to teach him you stay in bed until the morning?

    • We put the crib mattress on the floor next to the bed in case he fell out (which he did!). We put a gate at the door to his room too. It took a few weeks before our son would sleep in the bed as he he used to get up and sleep in his chair. We found that putting a padded mattress topper on made the difference as the bed mattress was too firm.

    • even if mattress is very close to floor, have a bed rail on from the first night. The feeling of insecurity/worry over falling can really stress a kid out and make the transition harder.

    • Put a gate on the door so at least they can not get out of their room

        • np: smart, I think. Or even just a hook near the top of the door. My parents locked me in my room at that age because I was a big wanderer, and I'm no worse for wear 34 yrs later... Also, I like having the BR door actually closed. It's better for blocking noise, and more fire safe.
