    • don't stress, take a photo, keep the cereal VERY liquidy, know that - at first - it's more about getting db used to texture than actually "feeding" any nutrition.

      • op - how long can I expect this to go on for? a week or two? Do I just give her the same cereal until she actually eats it?

        • really, don't overthink this. you'll know by how she is responding. for mine, who was 6 m/o, the first few days were really playing with the cereal more than eating it, then she started eating. but it depends on your child. just enjoy it and trust yourself to know what to do next. she'll let you know if you're paying attention.

            • ahhh. well, do the first couple of feedings over the weekend, so you can take some photos and experience it yourself. buy some cereal and some pureed fruits that can be mixed in later - pears are usually well received because of their bland flavor.

    • It seems scarier than it is. We used up a box of rice cereal (by which time DD was swallowing pretty well) and then started introducing other things: mashed banana, avocado, apple sauce, etc.

    • remember that solids are just for practice at this age. db's nutritional needs are fulfilled by bm/formula. so if s/he eats, fine, and if not, that's fine too. also, not all kids are ready at 6 mos. some don't really catch on until 7 or 8 mos. and there's the 3 day rule -- introduce one food for 3 days, then you can add another for 3 days, then you can add another, etc. good luck and don't worry about it.

      • db is 5 mo but seems to be bored of formula and ped recommended we start - would you do one cereal for 3 days then another cereal or just stick to rice cereal until she is actually eating?

        • np: either is OK, but FWIW saome babies jsut hate that rice cereal (and if you taste it, you can see why).

        • that's fine. you can do either. mine really seemed to hate the rice cereal, so i tried oatmeal (after 3 days) and that worked better. then i just started gradually introducing the apples, bananas, sweet potatoes, pears, etc.

    • op - also, planning on having nanny make strained fruits and veggies for db. For fruits like apples do you just steam and then put in a blender?

      • apples you probably need to actually boil, but then use the cooking water for the puree. (Its making applesauce.)

      • imo, this is a huge waste of time. for the tiny amount db is going to eat right now, it's not worth the effort. you can get frozen, organic fruit and veggies purees that are just as good.

          • its not hard to do yourself, even if you WOH. i did it, just made a bunch of stuff on the weeeknd and froze. and i also bought organic applesauce adn frozen organic squash puree (which are cheaper than baby food jars)

            • op - what did you make other than that? peas? carrots? I need ideas - and when do you start to mix more than one food together?

              • peas, carrots, green beans, sweet potato, and later on broccoli, beets, parsnips; mango, papaya, peach, nectarine, banana, avocado (those you don't cook first). basically whatever looked good at the market. I also tried kale exactly once.

                  • no, i mashed them up (really ripe fruit, obviously) and added water if needed to thin them.

                    • assuming you steamed the broccoli and then mashed?

                      • i ended up boiling, rahter than steaming, a lot of the time, adn using the cooking water for the puree. but sure, you can steam if you prefer. at first the tesxture has to be really watery
