  • I think the G&T test scores on here are equivalent to the weight polls. Apparently, everyone in NYC is rail thin with brilliant children. Or there are some fibbers out there. Signed by someone who is not thin with children whose intelligence is in the normal range.

    • but did you have your kids tested? I would assume that only people who think their kids are gifted would have them tested

      • OP: Nope. But, I have never seen one post where someone scored under 97. Nor have a seen a weight poll where someone weighed more than 130. So everyone who is tested is brilliant..and everyone with a scale is skinny?

        • I weigh 145--but I have kids who have scored 99 and 98--so either I am half fibbing or I am off balance

            • Nope, only 5'5". However, my BMI is in the normal range and I am pretty muscular, so only in NYC would I truly be considered "overweight" (but my kids are bright by all standards ;-) )

    • maybe the people who answer the weight polls are the thin ones and the overweight ones prefer not to answer

      • OP: My point exactly. But it works on both polls. People who are thin and kids score well answer. Those who do not, do not answer...but it makes it appear that everyone is skinny and genius.

    • I'm obese and my kid is in one of the citywide G&Ts. (They did not give us the percentiles.) I think it is partly selection bias and partly who answers polls. I don't answer weight polls. I know what my issues are and the last thing I need or want is stale advice from strangers.

    • The citywide G&T tours were all done by parents with very normal/somewhat overweight body types. I felt right at home, as compared to the private school tours for nursery and ongoing, where clearly a criteria for tour guides was a waist no larger than size 2.
