  • Are there no groups of high schoolers that just want to get together and have fun - no drugs, drinking or sex? Any wholesome ideas? I'm sure they're sick of community service but that's needed as much during the summer as in winter.

    • not really. as much as parents hate to admit it, high school age is the time of drinking and sex. I remember my sister going on and on about her son and his group of friends - they were the bright kids - she kept telling me they were "different". Ha, they were all drinking, smoking pot and having sex.

    • A summer job like being a camp counselor could keep high schoolers busy at least.

    • This is one of many reasons that organized sports CAN be a good thing.

    • Also big excursion camp/trips - - in the woods. Away from bars. Those are good too.

      • lol - We did lots of excursions when I was a kid. A couple of people would bring the pot, someone else would bring the acid or shrooms, and we'd all get wasted in the woods. Lots of sex on those trips too. Good times!

    • Yeah, it is very hard when it is your child and I will worry, but DH and I were pretty bad and turned out fine. And I was a good kid/honors studen/did community service. I found the time for trouble! My parents were pretty lenient and as a result they actually knew where I was (Atlantic City, NYC, a party where there were no parents) and I never drove drunk.

      • Me too! My friends and I all loved church camp and our parents were so clueless thinking how devout and wholesome we were.

          • It was the same for us. In fact my first make-out session with with one of the counselors. I grew up in New England. Not sure if people around here do church camps. I haven't heard of it, but my dc and friends aren't old enough for that yet so maybe that's why. Were you in the South?
