  • Black Tie Optional wedding in a few weeks on a Sat. night..what kind of dress? Can it be a dressy little black dress (at knees) or does it have to be gown???

    • I've seen lots of cocktail length at black tie weddings.

    • i like cocktail length for black tie optional. i feel ridiculous being overdressed in a really formal gown next to people in less dramatic clothes so i never really do it if there's the option

    • If its black tie optional would definitely not opt for the gown. There will be too many people dressing less formally. I usually expect only close family members or wedding party people to wear gown length.

      • Then they should have written black tie. That's not what optional means. Plus even these days a lot/most of women wear cocktail length dresses to black tie.
