  • so if i'm pretty heavy right now but i start watching what i eat and doing moderate exercise, how much weight is reasonable to expect to lose?

    • You need to cut calories to 1200-1600 a day - walk for 30 min daily and if you have a lot to lose, maybe 20 lb a month if you stick to the calorie count

      • thanks. i have to start a food diary and get an idea of calories. i suspect i'm eating a lot more than 1500 calories a day.

        • not to push anything, but if you have a good deal to lose there are prescription meds that take so much of the pressure off. they practically eliminate hunger and for me make me feel like what I always thought normal people must feel - without constant thoughts of food all the time

        • op: that did sound pretty high to me. i guess i'd be happy with 7 pounds a month. by summer's end i'd be 20 pounds lighter. i think more than that is a lot to expect.

    • Definitely calories - use them wisely. Drink water rather than calories. Carbs early in the day to burn them off. Allow yourself a small snack mid afternoon so you're not ravenous at dinner.
