  • echogenic bowels--what is this?

    • from what I understand it's a bright spot on ultrasound that usually means nothing, but can also be indcative of a number of complications.

      • true- especially in the second trimester. Could be a whole host of genetic problems, but the amnio will have ruled those out. After that it is wait and see if it resolves itself

    • means something is not forming correctly. Anything that is supposed to be soft tissue and shows up echogenic is not good. Many things fix themselves though.

      • had amnio to rule out the worst of the possibilities..still concerned--anyone btdt?

        • not bowels but DS had echogenic lungs. They said if it was what they thought, he would have no chance for survival. As it turned out, he had a heart defect and didn't make it, but the lung part cleared on it's own before the next ultrasound. GL to you

            • thanks. We did have a DD who is perfect and wonderful. GL to you. Many many things just go away. Sometimes all this testing is as much a curse as a blessing

    • could be nothing or might be associated w/ the Trisomy's
