dd has started doing more stuff after school with friends. I would never have been able to do that on a school night, but she's a good kid and a good student. Any reason to say no? She's home before 8 p.m.

[ Reply | Options ]she's going to a movie with her best friend, who is a guy but he's gay (in other words, not a boyfriend)
[ Reply | Options ]absolutely i'd let her. i have a 14 yo dd and she's started doing things after school too, but i have to say most nights she has at least 2 hrs of homework a night and i have a lights out policy of 10:30 pm (she's up by 5am).
[ Reply | Options ]not to be repetitive but I don't monitor her homework. she does it on her own at this point.
[ Reply | Options ]that's great that you don't have to do that. my dd needs a little check in now and then - she doesn't do a great job at estimating the amount of time it takes to complete tasks. she is certainly at an age where she needs some freedoms and it sounds like she has earned it by showing taht she is responsible with school.

It's interesting that at 15 she has a friend she knows is gay. When I was in high school, I don't think anybody would have been "out" by then.

When I ride in a taxi cab with my DC I:
- Use a carseat
- Buckle him/her in his/her own seat
- Hold him/her on my lap
- I'd never ride in a taxi with my DC, it's much too dangerous!
