  • dd has started doing more stuff after school with friends. I would never have been able to do that on a school night, but she's a good kid and a good student. Any reason to say no? She's home before 8 p.m.

    • how old? As long as she still has family time and her grades are not slipping, I see no reason to stop her. Let her have fun

        • Is she able to get all over her homework done after 8, or in a study in school? I would only be concerned about her work. I think hanging out is a very good thing.

          • I don't monitor her home work. she's very independent in that regard, and has been on the honor roll since 6th grade. This year, she's been on the honor roll with distinction all year. bragging, yeah, but just trying to stress that school is not a problem

          • not to be repetitive but I don't monitor her homework. she does it on her own at this point.

            • that's great that you don't have to do that. my dd needs a little check in now and then - she doesn't do a great job at estimating the amount of time it takes to complete tasks. she is certainly at an age where she needs some freedoms and it sounds like she has earned it by showing taht she is responsible with school.

        • It's interesting that at 15 she has a friend she knows is gay. When I was in high school, I don't think anybody would have been "out" by then.

          • they've been best friends since 6th grade. we've always know he was gay and he's never tried to hide it. he just came out to his mom last year.
