    • I'm so sorry. It feels the worst it will feel right about now. In a day or so you will see that it's not completely the end of the world. Time to get creative with the money saving ideas. GOod luck.

      • thank you. we could fire the babysitter, but of course the babysitter is the one person who keeps me sane. and how to do a job search full-time without full-time care?

        • i'd keep the sitter for now. also depends on your dh's mindset. if he's going to be miserable babysitting, it might be worth spending on the sitter. can you cut back on hours (maybe have her start two hours later in the morning?)

          • yes -- we'll probably end up doing something like this, especially when school starts again in the fall. i just need to stop worrying so much.

        • the first thing i'd do is put my expenditures into categories and then cut each category by 10%. (except any debt and mortgage/rent). i think you can cut things by 10% without having it be a huge hardship. if it can't be cut, figure out a dollar amount that would have been 10% and then take that amount out of something else.

          • the thing that always gets me is we'd save money if we cut out cable/internet, but what will i do without email, now that i'm not at work it is a main route of communication, ugh, nothing left to cut but that, good bye internet

            • switch to juno. i think it's $10/month. there are so many alternatives to everything. you can reduce phone bills by buying calling cards and pyaing per call for local calls (or just paying for a long distance plan and then paying per call for local), reduce cell phone bills by getting a less expensive plan or prepaying per minute and using it for emergencies. you can reduce car insurance. you can cut back on groceries.

              • op: you are great. you make it seem possible. i bought a semi-expensive pair of shoes two months ago when we were feeling flush, and they snapped (permanently broken) on my way to work yesterday. it was the last straw.

                • lol. it's always the dumbest things that make things seem so monumental. good luck straightening things out.
