  • If you hire someone to clean up 4 hrs a day and then pick up kids from school and watch them (playdate, feed, bath) Would you focus on the clean up responsibilities. What would you call this job nanny or housekeeper? How much would you charge for 2 ds?

    • I would call it a housekeeper with babysitting duties. She would have to be good at both, since she only has to clean when kids aren't around and only has to deal with kids once house is clean. No idea what I would charge, but this is my dream situation.

      • I am trying to create a 40 hr week for them. Right now I only really need someone for 4 hours after school, but if I am paying for 8 hours I want my house clean.

        • is that b/c you think you can't find someone good for just four hours a day? what about a college student who has daytime classes?

          • That is what we have now. She makes almost $20 p/h and feel for a little extra money I could have a clean house and not have to constantly be tip toeing that line of geting what I need done without offending her with my domestic needs.

            • i see what you are saying. $20/hour is a lot. fwiw, it's not always easy to find someone who will clean and also do a good job watching dcs. but i guess i agree with the first OR: housekeeper with childcare duties. B/c if you advertise for a nanny/sitter, it's very hard to ask them to do cleaning. as for rates, i think it depends on where you live.

              • I am poster above and I agree - it's tough to hire a nanny and ask her to clean. Much easier to hire a housekeeper and ask her to watch kids - most are happy to do it and those who don't want to will be upfront about it.

    • This is what I have, and for exactly the same reason as you are saying. You need to look for a housekeeper/nanny. It took me a really long time (9 months) to find the right person for this job, but now that she is with our family, our lives are sooooo much better. She is great with the kids, they both adore her, and she is also a great housekeeper. What I found was that these types of jobs are really common on Long Island. Everyone I interviewed who had actually had experience with a combo job, had worked on Long Island. I don't know why, but it seems to be the norm there. I found a few candidates on Craigs list, actually, but if you have friends on LI I would ask if they know anyone, or if their nanny knows anyone.
