  • I'm thinking of applying to the Brooklyn Free School for my 4 year old. Anybody have any experience or thoughts about democratic free schools?

    • I'm all for progressive education, but that's just too out there for me.

    • I think it is a little wacky as child actually need boundaries. Who know for the right kid it might work. You should check it out. Ask if you can sit in a class and also hang out at drop off and pick up to see what the kids are like.

    • They do have boundaries at free schools. And there are rules. The boundaries are just generally enforced socially. And the rules are decided by the whole school community.

      • How old were you when you went? Why did you leave? What kinds of kids do you think would do poorly?
