  • Are you friends with the other mothers at your DC's preschool? The ones at my DD's school are nice enough, but I feel like we have nothing in common other than our kids are all SN.

          • LOL - sorry - I didn't understand it when I read it. I'd love it if I could fine just one I really clicked with. They are nice women, but as I said, we really have nothing in common. I can't see hanging out with them or grabbing coffee or something.

              • I might try it just to see. Just seems like when we do make small talk it's so strained and awkward. But you never know.

      • Are you for real? No, I'm not in high school. It's not a matter of "cool". As I said, they are nice women. I just feel like we have nothing to talk about & nothing in common other than being in the same SN world.

      • This is a very non-SN board response. A special needs parent wrote this?

    • What I did was make a connection with a couple of moms of kids that the teachers and therapists said mine enjoyed being with. I also went to the support groups and slowly got to know some of the others and that was great. Are you going to the support groups?

      • I tried the support groups briefly but actually found it rather depressing instead of uplifting or supportive. I prefer not to go to the meetings anymore

    • It's like anything else with friendships. I have a couple of friends who are SN moms. Except for one particular Sn mom friend, we are friends because we have the SN thing in common and so on that level we "get" and "accept" eachother in a way other friends can't. But, sure, I'd say if it wasn't for having sn kids, I don't think I'd be friends with most of my sn mom friends.
