Any parents of the newly G&T, who know have a better understanding of some unexplained behavior of thier DC?
29 replies [ Reply | Watch | Options ]OP : I never thought of my DC as gifted, only really bright and logical. But there was this thing that I noticed, she is very sensitive to certain things. She is very mature about a lot of things, but her fear of certain things was odd. Now that she has been categorized gifted, It kind of gives an explanation to this fear of certain things.
[ Reply | Options ]Go visit www.hoagiesgifted.org A lot of articles on it. Do you know how gifted?
[ Reply | Options ]can you give an example of one of her unusual fears? and how does the gifted thing explain them? (not challenging you, genuinely curious)
[ Reply | Options ]examples of fears. The first one was with Mr. Noodle From Elmo's World. They guy who died and had a bald head. She was so afraid of him. I couldn't figure it out, but it was the bald head. I think she thought he was hurt. It mostly happens when she is looking at tv. She did not like to see things falling on people's head. She does not like to see people chased or hurt. When I say does not like , it is a real fear. She leaves the room. She closes her eys and shakes her head no.
[ Reply | Options ]ah, really interesting. maybe i'm gifted cause i think mr. noodle is a little scary too! thansk for exlplaining
[ Reply | Options ]wow.. makes sense to me. my G/T ds was always afraid of anything with googly eyes. any inanimate object that had eyes would freak him out. i used to go into his room and see that he had turned all dolls or pictures with big eyes to the wall. we had a set of Simpsons dolls that he could not be in the same room with. he's a sociable, funny, smart kid (12yo now).

Any link to clinginess to Mom & giftedness? Of my 3 kids, my brightest child is very needy whereas the other 2 are more normal.
[ Reply | Options ]Oh, God, here they come: the parents of newly-minted G&T kids who will henceforth damage their children with misconceptions about their special needs and abilities because they performed well on tests that correspond to socio-economic status of parents.

When I ride in a taxi cab with my DC I:
- Use a carseat
- Buckle him/her in his/her own seat
- Hold him/her on my lap
- I'd never ride in a taxi with my DC, it's much too dangerous!
