Moved to CA from NYC a few months ago. In NYC we had our own floor and could never hear the neighbors. We have two dogs and months after we moved in our neighbor saw us with them in the hall and said "I didn't know you had dogs!" Now in CA we're in a neighborhood where the houses are close together. When we first moved in they asked us to close our shades because the house was too bright and they go to bed early. I actually installed shades to be considerate. It has been 100 degrees plus the past 3 days and we installed an air conditioner in the only window on the bottom floor where it fits and today the wife stopped my husband on his way into the house and asked him if we could move it because she can hear it from her bedroom. Sorry for the long post but ugh. Get out of my space, lady.

If they weren't used to hearing it, then they are probably going to raise a stink... BUT... you have the right to live normally and they need to deal with the closeness. Just hang in there, be considerate and you should be able to do what you want.
[ Reply | Options ]we also just moved from nyc to ca, and it's a different deal here- people are not used to dealing with one another (on the subway, on the street) as much as they are in ny, so they're weirder about things. i get it. where in CA are you?

When I ride in a taxi cab with my DC I:
- Use a carseat
- Buckle him/her in his/her own seat
- Hold him/her on my lap
- I'd never ride in a taxi with my DC, it's much too dangerous!
