New York City getting tiring and expensive for young family with 1 DC and another on the way. We are thinking of moving elsewhere once #2 is here. Are you guys happy with your cities? Schools? Sell me on your neighborhood?

  - OP: yes, it would take some work to make it happen, but we're both feeling that NYC not perfect for raising our kids. We're not making millions.

    - OP: oh, too rainy. Don't think I could handle it. What do the SF/Berkely moms think? DH's brother lives there so there's a family connection. Is it just as expensive/hectic as NYC?

- DC or DC suburbs. Northwest (DC), Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Arlington, Vienna. Schools in the 'burbs are fantastic - some of the best in the country. Nice normal people. Lots of things to do.

- We've been trying to move for 6 months due to the same reasons. Not that easy to get a good job.....especially if you are relatively senior. Young 20 somethings have a lot more career portability. Those 15 years out of undergrad and senior in their professions have a hard time moving.

- We moved to Forest Hills (Queens) which has great public schools, tons of diversity, great parks, and a super easy commute (10 min to Penn Station on the LIRR). Love it.

- NYers crap on it, but I love living in Boston. Almost all of the bennies of NY, with much less of the hassle.
