  • I need some help here. I basically only have 2 rules. One, no tv in the morning during the school week, and two, no video games during the school week. EVERY SINGLE MORNING AND AFTERNOON, ds asks to do either one. I am at the end of my rope. Seriously. I have actually started yelling which I don't like to do. Any advice for this over the edge single mom?

    • Are th rules written out and posted on fridge? then when he does ask, say "what do the rules say?" then it is not you, but the "rules", who is making the decision.

    • christ, let the poor kid play some video games, just limit the amount of time and only after he finishes homework

      • OP: I am not a fan period of video games but he was given the system. I would rather he be outside playing or using his imagination. he's free to play all he wants beginning Friday evening to Sunday evening.

        • I'm with you OP. I think it is a great rule! We have a no TV rule in the morning too and my DC are not into video games yet, but when they are we will try to limit it in some way.

        • OP: Why are they unrealistic? He can watch tv in the evenings and he becomes a zombie when he plays video games. I don't like it. He can play on the weekends. When he plays during the week it makes everything a hassle: bathtime, bedtime, etc.

            • He's already figured it all out. He wins everytime. :) I really do not think I am being unreasonable. he's in K and learning to read and write and I think weekends only is fine. The games are too much of a distraction during the week.

              • np: You have to stick with it OP. I find that if you give in it's even more of a battle.

              • sure. I'm just saying don't write off video games as completely worthless. They teach a different kind of education.

    • I'm going to guess... he's 4yo? This is what my 4yo is doing. I just keep saying no. I think she believes she's going to wear me down. LIttle does she know, it's just going to make my head explode.
