  • I just had to put my cat down today. She went from healthy and happy to severely anemic and dying almost overnight. The vet said there's nothing we could have done but I just can't shake the feeling that we could have tried harder or something. We held her head and stroked her fur while he euthanized her today. She was only 3 years old. I can't believe this just happened.

    • I'm so, so sorry. Putting an animal down is very, very hard. I'm sure the vet was honest with you and you should feel good that you loved her as well as you did as long as you did.

    • I'm so sorry. I would be totally distraught if this happened to my cat.

    • I'm so sorry. But please don't think this way--it's so often true with cats that once they start downhill there's no turning back; this is not your fault. And you did a kindness by not letting her suffer.

    • OP: Thanks for the kind words. I know this isn't BabyCenter but I do appreciate a break from the snark sometimes. I wish I weren't pg so I could tell it to a glass (or bottle) of wine. Ugh

    • So sorry. I know how you feel. It has happened to me in the past and the diagnosis was Feline Infectious Peritenites(spl). There is nothing that can be done for that disease and so you did the right thing. Was your cat ever tested for FIP? Should you get another can in the future, make sure you have it tested for that as well as other cat-specific diseases. I, too, had to put a few young cats down and it was so hard. GL
