  • I need to say this and can't say it to people IRL. Dh and I are leaving this week to go to Europe for a vacation. Leaving kids with family. All the sudden I feel panicky thinking about it. I can't cancel - dh would kill me. Please talk some sense into me. Suddenly feeling like the most irresponsible parent.

    • you're not irresponsible, this is great and healthy and good for your marriage. your dcs will be happy as clams getting spoiled by grandma, your family will love the time with them, and you will get some much-deserved alone time with dh. don't worry, and enjoy your vaca!

        • oh, please don't worry about that. everything will be fine! if it makes you feel better, leave notarized medical permission notes. and if you must, make sure someone knows where to find your will. but honestly, nothing bad will happen and you will be fine!

          • thank you. As the trip gets nearer I am getting more anxious - and weepy more. I try to save it for when my dh and kids aren't around. I'm also PMSing, which sucks.

    • I'm really envious of people who have family members with whom they feel they can leave the kids. I dont have that at all. Leave your insurance cards and a notarized letter authorizing them to provide medical care as needed. Have fun.

    • I'll give you perspective- you have a bigger chance of death driving in your car or crossing the street in a busy city than you do in an airplane. Feel better?
