  • I so don't want to move to Rumson especially since my MIL is there. IsRumson going to be as miserable of a place as I expect? THere's nothing there. You have to drive 20 minutes to get to anything.

    • Rumson is far from miserable. Ask Bruce.

            • You must have a good deal of money to consider Rumson. I don't buy it.

              • We'[re fine not rolling in it by any means. DH grew up in RUmson and wants to end up there, he wants dd in the school system there. He thinks it's the greatest place on earth. I don't want to live there. We did 18 months in the burbs, and I am happy to be back in the city in a high rise now, and here he is 12 months later interviewing contemplating another move. Not happy about it.

                • I posted below; maybe see if you can compromise on Red Bank - there's a real 'there' there. Not huge, mind you, but a town with bars, comedy clubs, noteworthy restaurants, etc.

                  • That's a great suggestion - I'm the poster who got an apt in Red Bank after college. OP, in much of RB you can walk to town. Really fun.

                • The schools ARE fantastic. I grew up there too and I wish we had the $ to move back!

    • but it's beautiful - genuinely gorgeous. There's a great market, Sickle's, there, Shrewsbury commons is great shopping, Red Bank isn't far at all, and neither is PNC Arts Center. Yes, it's a short drive to everything, but they're nice drives.

    • I loved living in Rumson. Liked it so much, I moved to Red Bank after college. It's gorgeous. Summers are heavenly - total upper crust shore town. Beaches in Sea Bright, the boardwalk in Long Branch... YES, you have to drive everywhere - but it's not bad. REALLY! Plus, now that there's a high speed ferry, you're an hour from lunch in NYC!

      • DH is al about the beach club in Sea Bright. Sigh, I just don't want to move, and I don't want to be that close to MIL. She has really turned sour over the past few years, and she doesn't understand personal space much less common courtesy like don't just show up and expect to stay for a few hours.

        • Tell dh that if you're going to move to Rumson, HE is going to have to set LIMITS with his mother. Make it really, really clear that this is a deal breaker, for you. (btdt, btw)

          • He's all talk no action, so I am sure it will turn into me "being the bitch" because I will have to tell her that she can't just show up, etc. OK gotta go. DH is lurking.
