    - Truly don't get why you'd be embarrassed for them. It's a cultural thing, from what I gather, and a healthy thing. (Although in my apartment, I'd have little space for shoes out front.) Don't really know how to make it work, logistics wise.

- in my apt., we take off our shoes. i'm asian, and it's just what we do. dh is eastern european, and he enforces the rule more (bc i'm lazy sometimes and don't take off shoes.) we don't make our guests take off shoes, though. but, they see all our shoes stacked by front door and follow the lead.
