  • Its my first day back at work after 3rd maternity leave. Have 3 kids under 3, the oldest is being screened for autism and the youngest was preemie. I had food poisoning on sat pm and have an eye infection today (not pinkeye). My boss just told me he wants me t travel overseas this weekend for a conference and I am still breastfeeding. several of my accounts were given away while I was on leave. Its a shitty day. Just venting, thank you for listening.

      • the first few weeks are always hard, but this one harder than most. the eye infection is the icing on the cake.

      • I know.. I can deal with the pump, etc,, but DH is ALSO travelling out of teh country that week and we don't want to leave the kids just with the nanny (who lives in). BUT if I SAY that then suddenly I'm the unreliable one .. its a trading desk job, very very male. not one of my male colleagues wives works so for them, having to sort out adequate childcare is not someting they would consider. None of them thought I was coming back. Bets were made

          • I would have to take 3 children under 3 and then leave them to tear the place apart in a hotel room with the nanny. they truly are better off at home. I just have to think abt what kind of childcare arragement I want. I've never left them overnight just with the nanny, I have always flown my parents in.. this is too short notice (we are in Hong Kong, they are in the US)

              • Sinagpore, just 3 nights. It would actually be fun, I just would rather wait til 1) DH is home 2) not breastfeeding 3) NOT RIGHT after I go back to work, which I think is a real shock for the 2.11 yo (I'll find out in a few hours when I go home)

            • ah, that is why it is day for you! you must be frustrated that UB is so slow when you are on. I thought you should JUST take the baby, leave the older ones with the nanny. Probably impossible.

              • I could do that, but would need a 2nd nanny. the baby is on bottles daytime anyway so its not a big deal pumping, but I'll never let him know that!

        • what a bastard. screw them. think about what you are doing...2 jobs...trying to raise your kids AND work in a male oriented office. I wouldn't go.

          • they're probalby counting on that, though. they're probably only asking her to go so they can force her out. Fuckers!!

            • senior management loves me but I think my immediate boss would prefer to build his own team... I was here before he was brought in from another office

            • Let them. they can't force her out. She is providing her child FOOD!! This country is ridiculous with mat leave compared to others. So many European countries mothers get 2-3 YEARS paid leave. Canada they get a full year PAID leave! WTF is wrong with the US? How are women supposed to bf their babies when they have to go back to work so soon after birth?

      • yup. join him at a conference in Singapore. Its a test, to see if I'm really committted to coming back. the man is such an asshole. I'm pretty close to saying no, but the reality is, if I DO want to keep all my clients, this is a great opp to see them all at once

      • thanks very much. I just spoke to the nanny and oldest was FINE today, no drama at all. Clearly the 'he's so attached to me, this will be so HARD for him' was all about me!

    • one more vote that thinks you should go and not give your boss the upper hand. get the nanny some extra help, if she needs it. the babies are small and won't remember. good luck to you!
