  • I don't know why I woke up thinking about this... My father never took me on a vacation, he could have easily rented a car and a cottage in Wisconsin and spent time with me while I was growing up. His apartment was filthy and he never had me over there - fine I understand that, but he could have put some effort into spending sometime with me outside of the city away from noise and distractions. I wish he had been a better father

    • I'm sure he wishes he were a better father also. What positive things can you note about him?

    • I think our adult realizations of how our parents failed us can be so painful.

    • My father hit the road when I was 3, and I didn't see him again until I was 18 (and only because I took the initiative to contact him). Never did a thing for me. In fact, when I went to visit him, he'd try to make me pay for restaurant meals AND his phone calls to his mom (he wasn't poor). Spent about $10 on me in my life. Recently drank himself to death. My sister has managed to find herself a series of men like dear old dad (I went the other way, thank God) AND ended up moving to his city and was left holding the bag when he died (his wife kicked him out, so he was poor and ended up living in an apt my sister owned). Your dad sounds like a dream to me.
