  • ok, so with my pregnant nanny, I was thinking I could give her a couple months off when the baby's born--probably can't pay her for most of it, though, and then she could bring the baby. is that crazy?

        • I don't know. I mean, when it comes down to it, her child will always come first. And there will be days that she is too tired to deal with someone else's child, which is what it is

    • I think it totally depends on the situation. I know someone who is a nanny and has always brought her ds with her - he is now 4 and it has always worked out well. How old are your dcs?

        • will she need to leave the house a lot to drop off and pick up for kindergarten and preschool (assuming the 3 yr old will be in preschool)? That might be an issue if it interferes with her db's nap schedule. Have you talked to your nanny yet? Do you kno if she even plans to go back to work for you?

    • you could ask her what she plans to do, how much time she plans to take off for baby, whether she wants to bring baby to work or will be leaving w/a babysitter or a relative. you know, like your employer would ask you, if you were planning maternity leave .

    • Are you trying to be funny? Because your not. You sound like an evil witch. Why would you even post something like this? Your nanny deserves a six week leave just like anyone else and paid of course if you can afford it and really want to keep her. You sound like a real jerk. If you can afford a Nany then she deserves all the "work rights" that you do. BC obviously you work RIGHT????

      • np - lots of employers don't give six weeks paid leave in the U.S.

      • op: most people i know fire their nanny if she gets preg. FMLA guarentees 12 weeks unpaid leave, but doesn't apply to small businesses. I'm trying to be fair, but i can't sell my house to keep my nanny

        • np - don't worry OP, this person is clueless. she doesn't qualify for FMLA but if you can offer 12 unpaid weeks to her and take her back at the end of it with her baby, would be good. if you can afford paying for some of it, even better. I think you are being very reasonable.
