  • Selfishly, I should be a republican. None of the liberal "issues" really affect me. I'm straight. I will never need to have an abortion. I don't have family overseas so why should I care about immigration? I don't know anyone in the military, so I'm pretty removed from this war. DH and I make a lot of money so we don't need to worry about public assistance. Hey, tax cuts would be nice. BUT, I do care about these issues. And that's when I realized, the Republican party is really the selfish party.

      • op: The point is (which I made poorly) I'm very liberal. If I was selfish, I wouldn't give a crap about those issues since they don't affect me on a day to day basis. But I DO care about them. Which is why I'm a dem. And why Republicans are selfi imo.

    • I'm a lib. here, but I have to say that the most generous people I know personally are republicans. They give a lot more time and money than any of the lib.'s I know. But the gay thing is a terrible stain on them.
