Why is it that only special needs children get the bus for free? I feel that is so unfair.

it's not like the reg. ed kids get to pay for the bus. it's bus or no bus, not free bus or paid for bus

In nyc all elementary kids who live within a certain distance from the school get free yellow bus service. What are you talking about?

np - In NYC, the OPT (Office of Pupil Transportation) takes care of the buses. Every kid is entitled to a bus, as long as they live a certain distance away from the school and is K-5. Otherwise, they get a student Metrocard

No. Parochial students get publicly paid busses. Private is mixed. Spec ed gets bussed anywhere. Gen ed or G&T get bussed more than a certain distance but less than 5 miles. But only so long as there is no borough border in that range and only if kid is below certain age. It is not like it is in the hinter land where any kid who doesn't live across the street gets a yellow bus.
