  • Responding John/Kate post (being irresponsible) I think the doctor was irresponsible. If woman is taking fert meds he/she should be doing an u/s. If she produces too many follicles that cycle, it should be cancelled. Once you have 6 embryos it's real too late to fix problem. Reducing more than one is very risky especially when you have another four or so in there.

    • every RE will tell you that their goal for each pregnancy is a singleton pregnancy. you are totally right

      • not all of them. clinics vary. some are more conservative than others and focus on singleton pregnancy. others just do whatever it takes for a pregnancy and worry about the number later.

          • I agree but there IS a difference among clinics and they are all along the spectrum. just commenting on the "all REs" part of the comment.

            • ^^^even in NY. RMA and NYU tend to be far more cautious and have higher numbers of singleton pregnancies than Cornell and SIRM, for example. all you need to do is look at the stats.

              • Cornell also sees more women in their 40s and is where NYU and RMA send their "tough" cases, but overall i agree.

                • yes. but that's why i think more multiples - more aggressive protocols.

                  • right, i'm just syaing that in some cases aggressive protocols are the only ones that work. i was there and they were SO careful with me. no IUI for more than 3 follicles ever and they only had me on meds that generated 3 for 1 month.

                    • I totally agree with you but I'm also on IVFC and i cringe reading some of these clinics that will regularly put back 5 or 6 embies knowning the risk of multiples and super twins b/c of splitting.

                      • i hear you. it's a fine line to walk up to a point, and then it just gets insane. at cornell for IUI they usually won't proceed with more than 4 as policy, and that's among the most challenging cases. for IVF i'm not sure of max. didn't get there.

    • i know someone who had 4 follicles, all took, and two split. she successfully reduced to 2. but what a NIGHTMARE. i agree DR was so irresponsible. i went thru injectibles at Cornell and they will not proceed with more than 4. above 2 is doc's call.
